Ogon koi are one of the fish favorites in a koi pond setting. Their metallic color is like glowing neon in the depths of a green pond. This type of koi is single colored but always metallic. Though each variety possesses only one metallic color, it may vary from koi to koi. A collector would always include Ogons in their pond since a collection will never be well-rounded unless even one of these varieties is present in the pond.
Scientifically speaking, they are called as Cyprinus carpio. This type of koi could measure up to 36 inches long and are very peaceful in nature. They are a native of Japan and are also cultured and raised in other fish farms in Asia. For them to maintain their health and reach their potential growth size, they need at least seven hundred (700) gallons of water. They are very easy to raise and they are capable of surviving in a very tough environment.
Yamabuki Ogon – a suitable koi for those who have under-filtered ponds. Yamabuki are colored a metallic yellow that is really visible even in green waters. Just be careful when choosing one, you don’t want to purchase a very yellow color of this type since they usually form red spots that are mostly found on the head.
